When I founded Zarsa, I wasn’t just building a brand — I was stitching together a vision. A vision of handcrafted footwear that reflected identity, artistry, and soul. In a world of fast fashion and factory output, I wanted Zarsa to stand for something slower, more meaningful — a place for truly custom juttis, born in India.
But I quickly learned: creativity alone doesn’t protect you.
The Fight for a Name — And the Identity Behind It
A few years ago, a letter arrived. It wasn’t a customer or collaborator — it was legal. The message? My brand name was “too close” to another. A brand far bigger, louder, and with more resources than I had.
At first, I didn’t believe it. How could a tiny Indian label making hand-embroidered custom mojaris possibly threaten a global giant?
Like many Indian entrepreneurs, I had built everything from scratch — designed the shoes, worked with artisans, packaged orders late at night. And now I was being told to let go of the very name that carried it all: Zarsa.
The same thing happened to other small brands, too. The BBC reported how a UK boutique owner behind House of Zana was taken to court by Zara. They wrote, "Another Indian entrepreneur, Juhi Jain, changed her brand name multiple times before becoming Sozan Jaipur — losing time, money, and hard-earned recognition in the process."

This happens more often than most people realise. But what most don’t see is the emotional cost. Changing a name means redoing packaging, updating your website, notifying customers, redesigning every label, every tag — it means rewriting your story.
Like many small business owners, I had no legal team, no deep pockets, and no idea what to do next. All I knew was : this name, this brand, was my life. I had built everything around it — the logo, the packaging, the Instagram, the trust.
And yet, the risk of a legal battle was too great, atleast in the country I live in. I was forced to make a decision.
Sozan: A New Name, The Same Soul
After months of stress, late nights & identity crisis, I rebranded. I let go of Zarsa — and gave birth to Sozan.
Sozan Jaipur is our new identity but it carries the same heart. The word sozan means with passion — a quiet nod to the detail, artistry, and cultural depth we infuse into every shoe. It felt right. Not because I wanted to change — but because I had to grow.
Why the Name Still Matters — And Why Sozan Stands Strong
Today, Sozan is known as one of India’s emerging custom jutti brands — creating bespoke, handcrafted footwear for brides, grooms, stylists, collectors, and anyone who values individuality. We’ve grown stronger, clearer, and more focused.
